NET

The
New England mini-
summit

Hello,
NET Members!
Welcome to the September NETwork.
The hot stories this month:
The NET received this note from
George Miller's office:
In
case you did not see this, we have a discussion
draft of the ESEA reauthorization on the
website.
We would love your comments.

(Click on "No Child Left
Behind" at the upper right of the
page.)
I hope you are well.

(When
I was finished with Miller's website, I clicked "Return."
It did not take me back to this newsletter.) Actually the document
is only Section 1 of the ESEA
reauthorization. The other sections
are forthcoming.
Also of interest is the deadline
for providing comments: September 5. Jacqueline
Kenneally obtained
a grace period of a few days, but NET members or committees that wish to submit
language should make haste. A link to instructions on how to write
legislative language is at left.
The short deadline means many
groups will not respond in time, which increases our influence. Add
to that the fact that we specifically were invited to submit, and
we see that we have a remarkable opportunity. Send your proposals to
me for the NET's "official imprimatur" and I will forward
them immediately upon receipt to Chair Miller's office.
Also at left is a link to talking points
for discussing NCLB with concerned voters, parents, politicians and
educators.
Other linked stories:
-
NET member Pixie
Holbrook talked about NCLB with John and Elizabeth Edwards and gave them our
materials.
-
The NET's New England
members held a
mini-summit meeting in Northampton, MA, on August 14.
The
NET is now a truly national organization that reaches from New
England to the Pacific coast. It has acquired a presence in
Washington. But...we lack visibility with the public. I am asking
NET members who have experience working with the news media to
contact me about writing press releases, contacting media sources,
and using other means to establish our presence and bring our
message to the many concerned parents who have children in U.S.
schools.
Warm
regards,
Dennis
